8 Ways to Wear a White Linen Dress

22:44:00

What is the ONE outfit I can wear all summer?? Why it would have to be my white dress of course! There's something absolutely beautiful about a simple linen dress that works perfectly with the scorching Mumbai weather and still lets you look super chic. However, dresses can sometimes be a one-trick pony so today's post is ALL about letting you make the most of your humble linen dress.

1. The classic look

The easiest way to wear a linen dress for summers is to just throw on a pair of comfy sandals and a belt to get some waist and you're ready to go! I always reach for this dress on lazy weekends and it never fails. Just add a pair of fun sandals and put your hair up in a messy bun and you're ready for casual weekends out in less than 5 minutes!
Or... you could just add a pair of strappy sandals, bring out that beach bag and straw hat and you'll be ready for a lovely day at the beach! Honestly, it's all about the accessories!

2. Elevated Classics

A scarf always makes me feel Parisian! A simple way to switch up the first look is to switch the accessories. I swapped out the slighly boho pieces from the first look for a chic scarf and simple strappy sandals. The look is something that's a bit more polished and trust me ladies, it's a whole different vibe! The easiest way to wear the same pieces again is to switch up the accessories.

3. Skirt Up

Honestly, layering for summer might make you think you should run the other way but the trick is to take baby steps. A simple way of reusing pretty much any dress you own is to add a skirt on it! Honestly, this is so much better than 'suiting' up and will instantly give you a fresh new outfit. Since it's summer, you might wanna go for lighter fabrics, this skirt is a thrift find that I bought for the office but somehow ended up wearing a lot more on weekends instead. Just hunt for that skirt that you don't wear enough and try pairing it with a dress, you might simply get a pretty new outfit!

4. Wrap it Up

Well, if skirts aren't your thing, this might be an option for you! That wrap top that was just a little see-through and you never wore, why not use it as a layer for your dress. I LOVEE this outfit so much that I actually wore it out on the day I shot these photos and honestly, this wrap top is zara, secondhand and still has a few hundred wears left which makes me the happiest kitten in the world!

5. Denimize the House

So you don't have pretty shirts and are thinking to yourself, I can't possibly look like this girl... well sweetie, I've got you covered! That denim shirt/light jacket you bought to protect from random weather swings is a great piece to throw on with your dress. While it looks good as a jacket, you can just as easily button it up. Hide the little awkward seam (if there is one) with a simple belt and channel your inner zara model!

6. Layer Like a Pro

Right right, summer...but you can STILL layer! A sleeveless jacket and a scarf, all you really need to recreate this look. A light summer scarf is actually something that will last you through several seasons and can be worn in sooo many different ways, I'd say it's well worth investing in one. A sleeveless jacket is actually a great option for those skimpy tops that you might not be comfortable wearing on the train or just those days when you need  a bit more coverage but still don't want to feel super stuffy. Throw it on, add the scarf for a bit of visual interest and you've got a new outfit with a lot of new textures and silhouettes!

7. Desi Diva

Any dress is really just a glorified kurta isn't it? Why not throw on a pair of airy palazzos and a simple dupatta to turn your summer dress into a desi outfit? The trick to making it look put together is to keep everything in the same color palette (hopefully pastels). I added a pair of simple earrings but you can totally skip those if you aren't a big fan of accessories in summers. A quick easy way to create an Indian outfit without the hassle of going to buy fancy new things!

Outfit Details:
White Linen Dress: Rs. 1510, Shein (similar ones hereherehere)
Palazzos: Rs. 200, Borivali streetseller opposite the train station
Dupatta: Borrowed from mom
Earrings: Rs. 250, Janpath online
Heels: Rs. 1200, Ajio (similar ones here, here and here)

8. Put a Sleeve on It

Finally, statement florals and loud sleeves seem to be the norm at the moment (zara is doing these two that are quite fancy but sooo expenseeve!!). Well, Vajor, our very own indian store actually created something similar although I'd say any top you have with statement sleeves will do. Just throw it on, add a belt if needed to hide the seams and tuck in the excess of the shirt and you're done! It's really that simple. The sleeves add some serious statement style to an otherwise simple dress and give you a chance to bring out your fun side!

White Linen Dress: Rs. 1510, Shein (similar ones hereherehere)
White Floral Sleeve Shirt: Rs. 799, Vajor
Heels: Rs. 1200, Ajio (similar ones herehere and here)
Belt: Rs. 499, Koovs (super old I'm afraid so no links, sorry!)

And that's that folks! I hope these looks give you some style inspiration to get more use out of your wardrobe. If you need some video inspo, there's already an Instagram on my feed that shows you exactly how I created these looks that you can find here. The outfits here are less experimental since I want to be able to give you looks that you can actually recreate. This is all about going all in and actually feeling good instead of just being inspired by something that only looks good on certain body types!
