Chiconomical

So today is the last day of college....for this week. I'm totally exhausted, and a walking zombie on my feet. No Halloween make-up needed here. Today I didn't have any strength to hunt for clothes in what is supposed to be my closet. (Its more a jungle, but made of clothes) I simply picked up stuff from the washed linen pile and put it on. You might cringe if your one of those don't leave your house if your not perfectly dressed people, but try living my life. Its becoming harder to juggle both my lives you know.

Anyway, this is what I looked like for the day. For now, I need to figure out how to shop and sleep at the same time.

Have you gotten into the Diwali spirit yet? I haven't. I need to now cram all the last minute shopping and housework into one day. But the festival is not the time to crib. I should really leave that for another post.

Weekends for me are all about comfort. Yes, I'm fashion conscious, but that doesn't mean I forgo comfort and simplicity for fashion. In my world, fashion is being comfortable in what you wear, be it a simple pair of pjs or a designer gown. Its how you carry yourself that matters. Today's outfit is something you will find me in on any ol' laid-back day at home. I quite like how smart it looks (big fan of tucked in high waist skirts here!) but still affords me a great deal of comfort. Oh, and haven't you noticed, its blue!

Denim+Denim = more Denim!!!
Denim is the most commonly worn item in India. Walk down any street in my city, and your bound to spot atleast 3-4 people in various denim and denim-y variations. Of course, like any self respecting girl, I have a closet with a few dozen variations of denim jeans but this is my very first denim shirt. Okay, maybe not. Well...lets try that again, this is my very first denim shirt- bought by me! (remember the shopping haul from here)

I love the tie-n-dye effect of this shirt. Although I bought it off the street, its surprisingly good quality and is fast becoming a go to shirt in my closet. I tied it in a knot because I wanted to keep the look casual. Glasses because my eyes tend to reject my lenses out after 12 hour long days at the Uni. The spiked necklace is worn so much I'm shocked I don't have previous posts to link it to!

Have you ever stood in front of your wardrobe, and said,
'What if I wear this dress today?' then thought,
'But I just wore it last week (I blog now, so I can't even pretend otherwise, there's hard proof!).'
'Oh, but your not Richie Rich rich are you now? So obviously your going to repeat clothes! Duh!'
'Yes, but....'
'No buts, just put it on and get on with your life!'
'Oh awrite.....maybe I can add a few new accessories and make it look different?' (with a puppy face)
'Lol! Remember your finances, you spend most of it on 'education' and associated expenses now!' (crushed)
'Come on....it can't be that bad can it?'
'Lets see, the shoes, the food, the books, the new folders, the 'I can't walk to the train station in the rain' cabs, the expensive shampoo, ....'
'Those are basic necessities, you can't live without washing hair now can you, and I didn't wanna get drenched!'
'....and the little trip with friends, the train shopping, the new pencil case, the street shopping with three shirts...'
'Waiiit!!! That shirt, what if, I wear the striped shirt I got last month!'
'You could.... but the denims you wear it with are in the wash, most of the clothes need to be ironed, and your already running late!' (oops!)
'Well....what if....'

And that's basically how the conversation goes on and on and on. Today's outfit is a result of one of these monologues full of ifs and buts and maybes.

Of course I had no time to do my hair after all the intense debate, so my hair looks like a bush in all the pictures and I'm wearing my glasses since putting on lenses would make me even more late.(Why do I talk so much!?) What do you think of today's outfit? Talk to me in the comments below and let me know what you think and also if you have any such debates with yourself (or maybe I'm the only crazy one!). Flowers on my clothes always seem to remind me of flowy curtains or motherly bedsheets. I've never been a big fan of them on my clothes. The fact that I even bought a pair of shorts that had flowers on them is surprising to me. Frankly, I couldn't resist how soft and comfy they looked and since I was stocking up for summer in the midst of a surprising cold spell, I guess it was a case of wishful thinking.

Boy am I glad I bought these! They've filled a major void in my wardrobe. They're printed, a decent length, comfy, fitted, oh, and they're from Asos. I wear them all the time when I'm home and they've been through the washer a few times already, without any damage to the print. Definite plus for me!

It seems my waist has forgotten to grow over the last few years. I recently did a wardrobe overhaul (which in my book basically end in tears over all the things I wish I could keep) and found these ancient trousers. They used to be too long for me and quite big around the waist when I was a kid (these were a tantrum buy!) and shocked as you may be to hear this, while the length is a cropped one for me now, the latter still applies!

So of course when I tried them on, found they could be used with a belt, and immediately had to figure out a way to wear them the very next day! I kept it simple with my new black shirt and a couple of cream accessories. Overall, a look that can work again for formal sessions in Uni and at the same time, easily translate to a casual weekend look with different accessories.

Do you have pieces that have been in your wardrobe for so long they're practically vintage? How do you style them? Talk to me in the comments below or send me a tweet! I love hearing from you!

I've got a few friends who've gone to the States to pursue higher education. One of them recently asked me what she should wear for the Independence day celebrations. Now, first of, I was quite flattered because it made me feel like a cool fashionista offering her advice. Secondly, the whole discussion made me feel like dressing up so this post is my take on the red, white and blue trend that always crops up around this time.
I paired a nautical skirt with a simple white silk blouse and added a little bit of red with my belt. Simple and functional!
