Your Mom's closet is a great place to shop in when your wondering what to wear. My mom's closet is full of amazing western outfits, most of them gifted by dad to her, since he's a big fan of western dressing. Of course I picked out a knee length skirt, of course its blue, I mean, that's quite obvious considering its been a running theme this week, right? Right?? (I agree I'm obsessed and need to start facing it!) In case you can't seem to understand what I'm talking about, you can read my last post here.

If your a regular reader of my blog, you'll know that I've started my Masters course a couple of weeks back and I've been a full-time student at Uni (dying under coursework now). So keeping this in mind, I thought it might be nice to do a little post on what I wear to uni. Keep in mind, that there are quite a few rules to be followed while dressing here (read no short skirts, shorts or tees). Add to this the fact that its been raining like there's no sun in the world for weeks now, I have been struggling with my wardrobe. (Cue thoughts on shopping).

I wrote my last post (you can read it here) about dressing for girls who don't want a Marilyn Monroe moment when they're out and about town (that's quite a real possibility thanks to the windy rains we've been seeing!). Here's another way to dress along those lines.
I bought this playsuit last year before a trip to Goa with the family. While I haven't really worn it much after because mom's not really a big fan of it, its a pretty good outfit to wear on a casual Saturday. (Although living in India means anything this short will earn you lots of stares, but oh well).




The playsuit has tie up straps on top, which means you could easily throw this on over a swimsuit without much fuss(major selling point when you're dreaming of beaches). The little bow at the waist is just a cute little touch. I kept the look simple because I can't stand the heat that is follows heavy rains! Do you have those times when your travelling during rains and everything's drenched, then it stops and you've got a sticky, icky feeling? Please tell me you do!

Monsoons have been proclaiming their arrival for quite some time now. And not to mention the heat in the off time between intermittent showers. While its all good to be a cool fashionista and wear smart clothes such as mini skirts (like I did here) and maxis made of quick drying fabrics (see mine here) or maybe just a simple dress(the way I usually do here and here), I can't help but think of all those girls who are uncomfortable with anything that's built like a skirt. What do you do in this case? Why shorts of course! This is my take on how summer/monsoon dressing doesn't need to be very difficult and doesn't even require a lot of shopping if you have basics!








 I've got very few shorts (mainly because mom keeps rejecting the ones I get saying they're too short!) but these are those rare ones that have passed inspection. Also, they have an amazing amount of detailing on them that I love! All in all, a simple everyday look. You could replicate this look with absolutely any combination of shorts and tees in your closet with ease. Simple basics just need a good accessory to make you stand out, imho. So what are you waiting for? Grab those shorts and brave the rains in style!

Clothes in the rains don't need to be complicated. Sometimes, simple outfits can still make you feel chic.
Here's a little sneak peek into my comfort dressing.

Some rainy days, you can't take the effort to figure out interesting combinations of  things in your wardrobe. At times like these, like a million others, I fall back to my wardrobe staple...aka stripes. And when its raining like there's no tomorrow, a quick drying skirt is all I need to look cool and feel comfortable. The fact that the outfit turned monochrome  was a happy coincidence. (Don't you love it when you can check two of your favorite trends together!)








The bag is an impulse buy that I wanted to give a DIY makeover to. However, that never really panned out, so till then I'm using it as a simple white accessory. Any ideas of DIYs you've done on bags? I'm done with all my old posts about Lakme Fashion week and now I'm back to outfit pictures!! If you follow me on twitter (you can do that @QuirkyEngineerR) or are a regular at this blog, you'll know that my best friend, the one I usually pester to take my pictures has gone off to do her Masters in a land far far away (kinda like the kingdom from Shrek!) and that means I'm left with nobody to take my pictures! So, I've resorted to the timer on the cameras to help me out. Sadly, I'm still not confident enough to do this in public (and also I'm a little scared somebody will steal my camera while I pose) so I'll be taking pictures in my room for now. If you know any photographer who can help me out then please let me know!

The rains have stopped today so I thought it safe to bust out my white pants (oh, look at me all brave!) mainly because I've been dying to wear this little blue blouse that I got myself for my last birthday. Also, its the perfect backdrop for my skinny spikes necklace. (I have a slight spike problem at the moment). I've noticed that I've been shying away from arm candy ever since it started raining. I think its mostly because I recently lost one of my favorite rings thanks to an unexpected rain ambush! Oh, if you could just see how sad I was! Anyway, here's my outfit for today.





 This spike necklace is something I'd seen a lot of on various websites. While I can't justify spending the amounts they're telling me to there, I did find this one and a lot of its variations on the streets.

 I kept the look simple because the shirt has such a nice fabric and I wanted to to speak for itself without being overtaken by prints. That being said, I'm definitely going to try this out with my printed trousers pretty soon! I can currently imagine atleast three different looks using this shirt! I didn't want to be too formal so I tied the front of the shirt into a knot. Knots are a great way to breath fresh life into simple outfits such as shirts or maxis

No, I haven't gone crazy and started talking to inanimate objects. Well, maybe I have..... seeing as how I'm convinced that there's a black hole in my pocket that's sucking all my money away. I think that in an alternate dimension there another me who's got money raining from the most unexpected places.  No? Its my own spending habits that are doing that? Oh....okay....umm...oops!

Another week and another round of shopping! I'm so broke its a Joke! Wait, that rhymed! I really do like rhymes! No, that isn't what this post is about....oh yes, shopping! I've been dropping the BIG bucks this week! For starters, I've got a new phone!! Yay! Although it cost more than a month's salary, and technically mum n dad paid for it....its still mine, and since my old phone was literally falling apart and periodically going into a coma (it lost a few keys last month) this had become a necessity! Thank you so much daddy!

I also did a bit of sale shopping and got a couple of prezzies from my cousins! I went to Globus this week! I LOVE Globus sales....makes me wonder why I still don't have a store card! Must get one next time!

They have some fabulous items on sale currently, and if your in Bandra, you definitely need to have a little look in! Oh, and FLAT 50% thank you very much! They've even got some gorgeous dresses on sale but sadly, skinny little me couldn't even make the XS ones stay on me! One actually slid right back down! Lol!!
