Chiconomical

Today's outfit post was supposed to be posted almost a month ago, but somehow I never got around to editing the pictures. Well, better late than never I suppose.
If you live in Mumbai, you probably travel a lot by public transport. Unless your a Millionare. Or you have super wings that nobody knows about and fly to work. Or you have the patience of a saint in the city's traffic.I currently use pretty much all the top ways to travel in this city (read train, bus, walking, auto, etc etc). Trains usually have people of all classes traveling together, and many of my friends ask me how I can stand the stares when I wear slightly revealing clothes on the train or the bus. Well, a little bit of smart dressing can help imho. If you travel using public transport and dont want people to give you the "what on earth is she wearing" or "man that's too much skin" look, just use that layering trick we all hear about. No, we can't all have personal bodyguards to protect our modesty, but then, that's why we have tons of coverups no?

I love this little dress/tunic thing but I always fret about the length. One way I wear it (whenever I'm not taking the car) is to pair it with leggings/tights. A cropped jacked covers the arms and you end up with a totally public approved look. Loose the jacked and tights when you get there, and you're all ready for that pool party you've been dreaming about for weeks.

It seems I've made a habit of being MIA these days! I promise, there's a very good reason for this bad behavior. However, sometimes I'm not comfortable sharing a few aspects of my life on a public platform. All I can say is, I'm extremely proud of myself at the moment! (Insert happy chicken dance here)

So did you miss me? Didn't even notice I was gone huh? ;)

Onto the outfit, I took these pictures a few weeks ago for the blog, but somehow real life got in the way. My love for maxi-anything is no secret and this skirt was bought after much debate over the color with a rather reluctant friend (yes, I remember how much effort you took to convince me while I debated the advantages of buying ALL the colors). While the color turned out to be NOT what was mentioned on the box, I still think its kinda cool. Oh, and did I mention it has pleats?

I turned this shirt (Also worn here) into a croptop by simply tying it a little higher than normal and added the feather earrings for a boho vibe. Now that I seem to be stuck in various rooms for better parts of my day, this outfit just screams beach to me.

Are you one of those people who dress in almost a uniform of monochrome to work? While I'm not exactly a 'working girl' yet, I have been doing a bit of work recently. Yes, with a desk and everything! (How grown-up am I?!) So while I don't have a lot of rules when it comes to dressing, I still like wearing something cute and smart. I wore this last weekend when the dress code was casual instead of formal.

Summers in India are hot and brutal. I've gone about three shades darker and on most days I look like a human frying pan. Sure, I get to eat mangoes! Yep, gotta love summers for mangoes. But this still doesn't cover the fact that I simply can't stand the heat anymore. So excuse the grumpy expressions. I did manage a couple of smiles once I got to the beach and got my feet wet. Nothing like a little blue to calm those overheated nerves. Right?

This dress always makes me think I'm a human art-piece. And to think I didn't even want to buy it in the first place! I just got the bow out and did a little kooky tying to make it look more streamlined. I imagine taking to a meeting with a fitted blazer and a chignon (hopefully with a smile too). Overall, not a very good face, but still a gorgeous dress.

How have you been dealing with the summer heat? Tell me in the comments or talk to me on FACEBOOK

Crop tops are the summer equivalents of jumpers in my book. If winters are all about oversized and cosy jumpers that cover your till your fingertips then summers have their inverted version of these. Crop tops in my book are all about showing off some skin, albeit in a demure way (hello! living in India here people!!) and maybe flaunting that summer ready body, and most definitely about staying cool in the crazy weather.

Yet another trend I'm completely crushing over, is mixing prints. So out come all those cool summer trousers and their quirky prints. And while I own exactly 'one' crop top, a little intelligent tucking and folding is always useful if you want to rock this trend without investing anything in it. This striped crop top is actually a long shirt that I've just folded and fitted with the inner. Hello crop top! I couldn't resist wearing it with my butterfly print trousers. I had doubts when I bought these last year, but they've justified their cost several times over. If you're in the market for prints, I highly recommend investing in a pair of printed trousers. I currently have my eye set on these Polka printed ones from koovs. (*Quickly calculates how I can budget them into my monthly expenses....no cabs for a month maybe?*)

I love how laid back and summer ready this outfit feels. Are you a fan of the crop top trend? Tell me in the comments below or share your crop stories with me on Instagram (@quirkyengineer)

Mixing prints. Remember those days when I swore i couldn't do it? That prints would drown me if I wore more than one? Well, guess what, once I started (remember this?) I just can't seem to stop!

Continuing in the tradition of winter called 'layering', I paired my leopard print bat-wing blouse, with my peacock feather dress (remember this post). I pretended that I was a new species called the leopard bird, and well, the bat-wing sleeves flapping in the wind meant I could also pretend I was flying. W.I.N! All in all, absolutely love this! Definitely something I'l wear again.

I've had a massively crazy week! With tests, conferences, deadlines and presentations, you name it, I've been rushing to do it! Now I'm not one of those lets wear a shirt because its a formal occasion girl. So this got me thinking on what I could wear that would be me and still be acceptable in the college circumstances. As you know I tend to keep it simple (well, unless its accessories!) so this outfit is my take on college dressing which is very travel appropriate(I do spend half my life travelling you know!).

Simple printed top, with tailored trousers. You can add a fitted blazer to make it more 'workwear'. Since the temperature has been hitting the 30s this week, no blazer for me! I know, nothing extraordinary. What can I say, its been a wear classic combinations kinda week!

PS: In case you're wondering why I have funny squint eyes in most of the pictures from this week, I've got a mild eye infection. Sorry about that. Promise you, there will be better pics next week! Have a nice weekend!
